JOURNEY TO AFRICA

SERIES MALAWI MISSION AND GHANA SAFE HOUSE

Melbourne Y-Generation Against Poverty (Y-GAP) youth run not for profit organisation aim to bridge the world gap together between privileged and deprived children. In just a few weeks 16 Y-GAP members will travel to Africa along with film and crew documenting the “Malawi Mission” and Ghana: “Safe House” projects.

“Malawi Mission” at request of Malawi Department of Education, Y-GAP set to lead construction of four classroom blocks providing an education facility for over 6,658 students and 38 teachers. Ghana: “Safe House” Y-GAP takes the dangerous obstacle in assisting negotiations’ for freedom of children in forced labour industries. In January 2009 Y-GAP’s team will embrace the task to extend a local house to serve as a refuge for 24 children and their guardians: providing a shelter for health and safety.

The committee team consists of human rights organisations, Chris Judd Caption, Carlton Football Club as Y-GAP Ambassador, Tim Costello CEO, World Vision Australia, Simon McKeon Executive Chairman, Macquarie Group, Howard Critchley Managing Director, CEVA Logistics, Fabio Cammarano Partner, CPA, Collins & Co and Kate Jesaulenko John Anile PTY Solicitors.

Y-GAP is on nation-wide appeal for volunteers and funding enthusiasts, in support of 16 brave Y-GAP members’ setting foot in parts of Africa to embellish the lives of children living in poverty and constructing the projects at hand “Malawi Mission” and Ghana: “Safe House”.

Major fundraising activities with all proceeds directed to the projects, catch the Y- GAP team and make a difference, dates and venues below.

Bike Ride 11 days, 2,051kms, Dion Taylor and Natale Matarazzo completed a bike ride riding from Brisbane to Melbourne – To create awareness for ‘Malawi Mission’ & ‘Ghana: Safe House’ projects.

The Swindle Ckillers are coordinating a superb line-up of new Aussie Hip-Hop music acts in raising funds for Y-GAP.

Headlining the line-up is Diafrix – featuring full African drumming band, the Swindle Ckillers, Lost Boys, Illy, BBS, and Agency Dub Collective with special guest DJ Mixa from Bliss n Esso.
